The song that features throughout The Lego Movie is entitled “Everything is Awesome”, and everything about the film is awesome. The Lego Movie is probably the best animated film since Toy Story, and will go down in history as one of the greatest of all time.
First of all, this film had razor-sharp writing – it has enough puns, jokes, observations and pop culture references to make your brain explode and make every adult feel 10-years-old again. The writing isn’t schmaltzy and has such a rare intelligence that many live-action films don’t even come close to achieving. The best part about this script is that it doesn’t try to be clever – it just is. The jokes are silly but in that same silliness finds such sweetness and genuine good-hearted fun. Anyone who doesn’t laugh at least once during this film has some serious issues.
The animation in this film initially seems off-putting – seeing the stop-motion animation in the first scene makes one wonder “how am I going to watch a whole film of this?” but suspending disbelief and just watching shows that The Lego Movie is a colorful, wonderfully made film with seriously gorgeous animation and sight gags that hearken back to Pixar’s glory days.
The Lego Movie is really a great film. This is one film that absolutely everyone can enjoy, and one that can be rewatched a few more times. A wonderful film
Best film of 2014 (so far of course)
